In response to COVID pandemic, several R&D related initiatives were taken at national level by the respective Departments / Ministries to bridge the gaps in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and other aspects of disease.
In connection to this, Principle Scientific Advisory (PSA) to Government of India (GOI) directed the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to consolidate the COVID-19 diagnostics related initiatives taken by the various Departments/Ministries.
Subsequently, DST constituted an independent committee under the chairmanship of Secretary, SERB involving members from CSIR, DBT, ICMR and recognized institutes.
The independent committee in its first meeting dated 15th May 2020 unanimously recommended to develop an information/knowledge portal that can offer information about the latest development towards COVID-19 diagnostic technologies emanating from the GOI funded research projects.
Based on the above recommendation SERB in association with CDAC developed a dedicated diagnostic knowledge portal National initiatives on Diagnosis and Analysis Network (COVID-NIDAN). This portal is developed to apprise all the stakeholders,
including public and scientific community about the cutting-edge research/products emerging in the field and also serves a part of integrated national S&T response to the pandemic, while reporting to the highest level of governance and public at large.
